Tanner Hawkinson was fated to attend Kansas University and don a Kansas Jayhawks jersey. His grandfather, mother, two brothers, and one sister all graduated from KU and Tanner is just one of the last in the family to go through the program. However, Tanner Hawkinson is planning to leave a more permanent mark on the school through his athletic endeavors which his Kansas Jayhawks-loving family supports wholeheartedly.

Tanner Hawkinson grew up in McPherson, Kansas where he learned football and basketball skills, idolized Tony Gonzales, learned how to play piano, and savored time at the lake. At his focus narrowed to football, he began spending more time on the field behind McPherson High School and develop his early athletic inclinations.

As a junior, Tanner Hawkinson made 24 receptions (totaling 363 yards) and as a senior, he had 30 catches, resulting in 500 yards and 5 touchdowns. Due to this type of consistent performance, Tanner Hawkinson was lauded as conference offensive MVP.

Tanner Hawkinson's awards didn't stop with the MVP honor, however. He was also an All-State selection, captured All-State First-Team honors, was picked to participated in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. And let's not forget his other athletic passion: basketball. Tanner Hawkinson was an All-League First Team during his senior year and a Second-Team choice in eleventh grade.
